              History of runes
Runes originated in the Germanic cultures and are one of the oldest writing systems in Northern Europe. Their history dates back to around 100 AD, and they were used by various Germanic tribes, including the Vikings, until the Middle Ages. The runes are not only an alphabet, but they have also had a deep spiritual and magical meaning throughout history.

              Origin
The runes are believed to have developed from the Etruscan or Latin alphabet, which was adapted to suit the Germanic languages. The oldest runic alphabet, the Futhark, contained 24 runes and was used to carve inscriptions on stone, wood, metal and other materials. The word rune means "secret" or "mystery" and reflects its deeper symbolism.

              Use during the Viking Age
During the Viking Age, a simplified version of the runic alphabet, called the Younger Futhark, was developed with 16 characters. Runes were used for many purposes, including:

Inscriptions on runestones: These were erected by the Vikings to honor the deceased or mark major events.

Magical and Ritual Purposes: Runes were carved on amulets, weapons and tools to provide protection, success or strength.
Communication: Runes were used to write short messages and keep records.

The mystical meaning of the runes
The runes had a strong connection to Norse mythology and religion. According to the legend, Odin gained knowledge of the runes after sacrificing himself by hanging from Yggdrasil, the World Tree, for nine days and nights. This story reinforced the runes' role as sacred and magical symbols.

The disappearance and rediscovery of the runes
As Christianity spread in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, the use of runes gradually declined. They were replaced by the Latin alphabet, but their meaning was preserved in folk belief. During the 19th and 20th centuries, runes were rediscovered and studied by historians and linguists, leading to renewed interest in their cultural and spiritual significance.

Today, runes are used both as historical artifacts and as spiritual tools for divination and meditation. They represent a link to the wisdom of our ancestors and are a reminder of the ancient traditions that shaped our culture.

              Symbolic meaning

✨ Norse Mythology – Symbols filled with power and history

The world of Norse mythology is deep, mysterious and filled with ancient wisdom. Gods, animals, runes and signs carry stories of life, death, transformation – and the indomitable power of the soul. 🌌 In a time when people lived in close harmony with nature and its cycles, these symbols served as protection, guidance and sources of power in both everyday life and ritual.

Each symbol – in the form of an amulet, rune carving or sacred figure – carries a unique and timeless meaning. They inspire, strengthen and remind us of our deeper origins.

Runes – The Ancient Language of Magic
Runes are more than alphabets – each character has its own inherent energy. They were used in magic, divination and as protective symbols. Runes such as Algiz (protection), Sowilo (sun, victory) and Ansuz (wisdom) are particularly popular. 🔠

"Thought" and "Memory" fly over the world every day and return with knowledge. They symbolize intuition, intelligence and spiritual presence. 🕊️

              Sleipnir – Odin's horse
The eight-legged horse that moves between worlds. Sleipnir is a symbol of movement, travel, balance and contact between the visible and the invisible. 🐎

Jörmungandr – The Serpent of Midgard
Worldwide and ancient. Jörmungandr bites its own tail – an archetype of eternity, the self-circle and the subconscious. 🌀

🐺 The mythical wolves of the North – symbols of power and cosmic balance

              Freki & Geri – Odin's Wolves
These two wolves are Odin's companions and stand by his side in Valhalla. Their names roughly mean "the voracious" and "the greedy", and they symbolize primal strength, loyalty and the animal power that is also within us. They guard, protect and embody the wild aspect of nature. 🐺🐺

Fenrir – The Primeval Wolf Who Breaks Chains
The most feared wolf in mythology – the child of Loki and doomed to cause the downfall of the gods at Ragnarök. He symbolizes the untamed power, destiny and the will to break free from unjust limitations. Fenrir teaches us to turn our anger into power. ⚔️🔥

Sköll & Hati – The Sun and Moon Hunters
Two cosmic wolves chasing the sun and moon across the sky. When they catch up, a solar or lunar eclipse occurs. Sköll and Hati symbolize the eternal cycles, the power of change and the passage of time. They show that nothing is static – everything moves. ☀️🌕

🌙 Mythological figures & their power

              • Odin – The All-Father, the god of knowledge and magic. He sacrificed his eye and hung in Yggdrasil to attain the wisdom of the runes. A symbol of sacrifice, vision and spiritual power.
